The International Songwriting Competition

Three of my songs have been chosen as semi-finalists:
Brand-New Woman Blues (Blues), Drunk (And I Wanna Go Home) (Country), and Thirty Cats (Folk/Singer-Songwriter).

Dallas Songwriters Association Annual Contest Results

I’m pleased to share the results from the recent DSA songwriting awards, which were judged by an industry panel.

All of my submitted songs advanced to the semi-finalist round, with the following final placements:

Thirty Cats earned 2nd Place in the Americana category.

Underneath the Stars tied for 3rd Place in Love Songs / Easy Listening.

In addition, five of my songs were semi-finalists in the highly competitive Country category, and my work was represented across Americana, Country, Love Songs, and Pop/Rock.

I’m grateful for the recognition and for the thoughtful listening that goes into judged competitions like this. Results aside, it’s encouraging to see these songs connecting with different audiences and musical sensibilities.

More to come.

The Song of the Year songwriting contest has awarded Bob a Finalist spot in the Pop category for Caribbean Christmas and a Semi-Finalist award for Tides of Us.

Previously he had a Finalist with Let's Write a Love Song, and two Semi-Finalist placements in their contest for There Will Never Be Another You and Legacy of Love.

Song of the Year receives entries from all over the world and only the top songwriters receive a Semi-Finalist placement in the songwriting competition.

Special thanks to my granddaughter Brittany, who found and forwarded the personal statement that inspired Legacy of Love.
Without that moment, the song wouldn’t exist.

Bob was honored six times in 2025 as a Top Five finalist in SongwriterUniverse’s Best Song of the Month Competition. His songs My Corner of the World (December), Backroads and Heartstrings (October), Holdin’ Hands Again (September), When The Moon Waltzes In (May), Whispers of Forever (March), and Twilight Legends (January) each earned a place among the top entries, reflecting both his versatility and consistent artistry across genres.

September 2025 – Bob's song Brand-New Woman Blues was awarded Semi-Finalist placement in the 2025 Song of the Year international songwriting contest. The Semi-Finalist honor is the highest placement next only to the one Winner and four Finalists in each category. View placement page

Bob's song Lost In Yesterday has been named Broadjam’s August 2025 Song of the Month, earning top honors and a feature in the Broadjam Newsletter.

Review of Whispers of the Willow

Bob Juch’s Whispers of the Willow begins with the earthy pairing of guitar and harmonica, an opening that feels almost unfiltered, as though the listener has stumbled into a quiet moment between friends rather than a studio recording. The guitar sets a steady, contemplative foundation while the harmonica adds a raw emotional quiver, immediately transporting you to a mountainside at dusk. That setting becomes even more vivid when Juch delivers the line “The willow weeps as the sun sinks low,” a lyric that establishes the song’s reflective tone with poetic clarity. It’s the kind of line that reveals Juch’s roots as a poet-turned-songwriter, carrying imagery that lingers without calling attention to itself.

The vocal approach is intentionally vulnerable. Juch’s delivery feels close and unguarded, almost like he’s singing just a few feet away, and that intimacy is amplified when the female vocals join in. Their contrasting textures create a natural call-and-response dynamic, giving the song the feel of a shared story rather than a solitary reflection. Her tone lifts and lightens the melody while his grounds it, and together they create an emotional conversation that deepens the narrative without crowding the arrangement. It’s a carefully balanced interplay that adds richness while still preserving the song’s quiet, personal core.

The production is polished yet unobtrusive, allowing the song’s emotional weight to do the work. Each instrument has room to breathe, from the warm resonance of the guitar to the aching bends of the harmonica, and the mix maintains a clarity that highlights the sincerity of the performance. As the song progresses, it builds with the kind of subtlety that rewards attention. Layers emerge gradually rather than all at once, giving the music a sense of movement that mirrors the emotional arc of the lyrics. Nothing ever feels rushed or overdone; instead, the rise in intensity feels like a natural evolution of the story being told.

By the time the final notes fade, Whispers of the Willow has unfolded into a piece that is both emotionally grounded and musically cohesive. The harmonica lends passion, the guitar provides meaning, and the vocals weave them together into something quietly powerful. It’s a testament to Bob Juch’s craft as a musician and storyteller, showcasing his ability to create folk music that feels deeply human, beautifully constructed, and resonant long after the last chord settles.

SCORE / Excellent – Passion flows through every bend of the harmonica while the guitar gives the song its heartbeat, and the interplay of voices ties it all together with gentle honesty. It leaves you with a sense of calm clarity, the mark of a songwriter who understands how to shape emotion into something quietly unforgettable.
